Newsletter N0 15. Term 4, 2007/8
26th March 2008
Dear parents,
I hope you all enjoyed the Easter weekend. It was certainly different to previous years in terms of holiday dates!
Thanks are due to Mrs. Dawn Hardwick and Mrs. Jenny Cox, for putting on a wonderful Easter experience for the children last week. The library was transformed into a thought-provoking area, where the children engaged in activities linked to the theme of Maundy Thursday. The children responded really well to the experience, and I am very grateful to Dawn and Jenny for giving up their time to put on such a creative and enjoyable activity for the children.
Also, many thanks to the School Association (particularly Mrs. Culliford, Mrs. Bazzone and Mrs. Woolnough) for organising the Easter egg hunt. Despite the bitter wind, the event was great fun and was enjoyed by all the children. Thank you very much indeed.
As a follow up to World Book Day, we will be holding our own Book Day celebrations next Monday 31st March. Please read the attached sheet in good time – you need to do a bit of preparation! Don’t forget to use your Book day vouchers before the expiry date on 30th March.
Well done to our young musicians, who took part in the Small schools’ music festival. By all accounts it went well and was enjoyed by all. The guitar players are performing in school as they didn’t get the opportunity to perform on their own at the event. We are also intending to hold our own event in the summer term, when you will be invited to come along and enjoy a celebration of our musical achievements.
Our efforts to raise funds for Sports Relief have resulted in a collection of over £120. Thanks very much to Mrs. Warnock for designing and organising the event, to the children for all their efforts and of course, parents for supporting the event so generously.
The tag rugby team did extremely well, coming second out of the small schools. They were justly proud of their performance and worked well as a team, which is great. Well done all of you!
Our school also took part in an Inter Schools Quiz for the first time this year. The quiz had some very challenging questions, which had to be answered within 30 seconds. Unfortunately we did not win, but both the team and the reserves were awarded a certificate for getting that far. It was an interesting experience and the children particularly liked the electronic handsets they used to answer the questions. Next year we will have to do more swotting before we go!
We break up from school on Friday 4th April for the Spring holiday. The first day of Term 5 is an Inset day, so the first day back for the children is Tuesday 22nd April. There will be no swimming that day, but children need to bring their PE kit in case it is fine enough to do PE at school. On the subject of swimming, if you consider that your child is not well enough to swim but is well enough for the rest of the school day, please bring them along to school to be registered at the normal time. Children who are not swimming can sit on the poolside and watch the lesson, and can still take part in the ‘dry’ session.
On Thursday 1st May, the photographer will visit the school to take class group photographs. This is for school aged children only. Please make sure your child looks smart on that day. On that note, I notice that several children sometimes wear trainers to school. We encourage the children to wear correct school uniform, which asks for black shoes to be worn. Details of the uniform are listed in the school prospectus, as are other school policies. If you would like a copy, please take one from the entrance or ask in the office.
As you know, we are a recognised Healthy School, and as such are keen to promote healthy lifestyles. It is school policy for children to eat fruit or cheese at snack times. Some children appear to have chocolate or other sweet snacks, so please could you make sure they bring a suitable snack in future.
I would also ask that you do not send nuts to school, as this could potentially be a danger by causing children to have an allergic reaction.
Lastly, thank you very much for all the positive and complimentary comments that were made at parents evening. It is lovely to know that all our efforts to make this a brilliant school are noticed and appreciated.
Many thanks for all your ongoing support.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Jane Hewitt
