Newsletter N0.2, Term 4, 2006/7
21st March 2007
Dear parents,
Many thanks to everyone who supported our cake sale in aid of Comic Relief, which raised an impressive £34.72. I would like to thank and congratulate Lucy and Matthew in Class 3, who suggested and organised the event. It is lovely to see young people using their initiative to help others.
Next week we are engaging in a whole school ?Green week?. Our main aim is to raise awareness of environmental issues and think of ways to become an eco friendly school, whilst engaging in some fun activities! We will have a visitor from SITA to talk to the children about the three ?R?s; reducing, reusing and recycling. Also, a member of Friends of the Earth is coming in to teach the children about climate change. We will be setting up lots of different activities to get the children thinking about things we can do to be more ?green?. As part of work on reducing packaging, we are holding a Lunchbox challenge on Thursday. If your child has a packed lunch, we would like you to use as much reusable packaging as possible. There will be a prize for the most eco-friendly lunchboxes!
After school on Thursday (29th March), we are holding a ?bring and buy? sale, to help the children to think about passing on things they are no longer using. Money raised at the sale will be used to buy plants for our wildlife garden. Please encourage the children to bring in any unwanted books, toys or games anytime before the sale.
We are very grateful for all the wonderful support given to us by the School Association, who have recently donated £3000 to the school, enabling us to purchase goods or services to improve our facilities. We have already purchased some lovely books, games and maths resources, and are ordering some ?child friendly? digital video cameras and ?beebots?. The money is also funding the Lego workshop, the Life Skills bus and transport to Bristol for classes 2 and 3. Plans are also being made to improve the play area, and we should soon be able to put up the play fort which was generously donated to us by the Jubilee committee. Thank you all very much for your continued support.
Also, we have acquired some excellent PE equipment, and have purchased a new, waterproof shed to store it in! The shed has been delivered this week ? now we have to undertake putting it in place! Are there any parents who could help us demolish the old shed and erect the new one? We are planning to do this next Saturday, March 31st. Please let me know if you are able to come to help. It would also be very helpful if we could have some help with disposal of the old shed, so please let me know if you could use the wood, or would be able to dispose of it for us. Many thanks.
Several prospective parents of children at the school have asked me about local after school care. Do any parents know if there is anyone locally who would consider looking after children between the end of school and their parents? return from work. I know this is a difficulty for many parents ? please let me know if you know anyone, or would like help to take this on yourself.
Attached with this letter is a copy of the Fair Processing Notice, which has to be issued to each family. If you have any questions about the document, please do not hesitate to ask.
Please can I remind you to make sure all your child?s belongings (including lunch boxes and drinks bottles) are clearly named. We are having endless problems matching belongings to their owners!
Egg venture beads have been given to all the children, kindly donated by the church. David Russell has explained the thinking behind the beads to the children, and there are instructions telling the children how and when to thread the beads during the next few weeks. As we will not be at school for the whole of Holy Week, we thought it best for the children to have the beads at home. We hope they enjoy them, and that it will enhance their understanding of the events leading up to Easter.
The School Association are running their usual Easter egg hunt in the last week of term. This year it will take place in the afternoon of Monday 2nd April, in the Smiths? garden. The cost is £1 per child, with a chocolatey prize for everybody, and special prizes for the champion egg hunters. Tickets are also still available for the Mad Hatter?s tea party ? please see Mrs. Woolnough for those.
Parents? evening will take place next Wednesday 28th March. Please sign the list on your child?s classroom door for an appointment.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. Jane Hewitt
