Newsletter N0 1. Term 1, 2007/8
4th September 2007
Dear parents,
Welcome back to school. I hope you all had a lovely break and managed to catch some sunshine!
It was lovely to see the children coming into school this morning, looking smart and greeting their friends happily. Tomorrow we will welcome our new Reception children; George, Fergus, Elliot, Archie, Geraldine, Sian and Cameron to our school. A warm welcome also to our new member of staff, Mr. Wright, who is sharing the teaching of Class 2.
We also welcome Mrs. Lawrence to the regular staff for this year. The Year 4 children will be taught by her on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. I am very pleased that we are able to offer the children this opportunity to have concentrated teaching for literacy and numeracy this year.
Here is a reminder of the teaching arrangements for each class:-

There have been further developments in the refurbishment of the school over the summer holidays. We now have increased cloakroom space for class 3 in the corridor, a very smart staff room and a new storage shed. All of these improvements are aimed towards more comfortable and stimulating surroundings and more efficient storage of resources.
The school is looking really smart, so thank you very much to all the teachers and of course, Mrs. Harris, for all your hard work. As you know, Mrs. Harris has resigned as caretaker of the school, so we wish her every success in her new position at pre-school.
Mrs. Wendy Oram has resumed as caretaker of the school and Mrs. Kay Willey is taking on the cleaning. The school will be in good hands, judging by past experience! Welcome to you both.
There are many events planned for the year and I have attached a list of dates for your diary. Of course, at this early stage it is difficult to predict all the dates, but at least you will have the bare bones! I have tried to include as many dates as possible so that you can plan ahead. Please avoid taking children out of school for holidays, as this is disruptive for children and teachers and tends to unsettle the class. Thank you.
The school photographer is visiting us on 21st September at 9a.m., so please bring along your pre-school children first thing, if you would like them to be in your photograph.
We will soon be holding an open morning for pre school children to come and look around the school. Parents and children will have the chance to meet us all and find out about admission procedures. If you know any local children who are due to start school next September, please make sure they are aware of the event, which takes place on the morning of Wednesday 26th September.
A letter concerning details of swimming dates and charges will come separately. There is no swimming next week, so the first session will be on Tuesday 18th September. School P.E. sessions will now usually take place on Monday afternoons for classes 2 and 3, so please make sure your child has his/her kit in school at the beginning of the week.
Can I just remind everybody to take care when dropping off and collecting children at the beginning and end of the day. Please make sure you do not leave children unattended before 8.45a.m., when the children are supervised in the playground until the whistle goes at 9.00. Thank you.
There will shortly be a new prospectus, giving comprehensive information about our curriculum, school routines, uniform etc. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything you are unsure about.
Yours sincerely,
Jane Hewitt
