It's official - we are an OUTSTANDING school! Read the latest report in the OFSTED link below.

Our School

Rangeworthy is a small village to the north east of Bristol, between Yate and Wotton-under-Edge. The village is lucky enough to have its own primary school, which not only provides an excellent quality of education for the pupils, but is also an important focus point for village life. This community spirit is also found within the school. There is a strong, family atmosphere which the children seem to thrive upon. The school has a long tradition, having celebrated its 100th birthday in 1996.

There are currently 53 pupils on the register, with an intake of 10 per year into the Reception Class. The school has 4 classrooms.

Classroom organisation

  • Class 1: Reception and year 1 (ages 4-6)
  • Class 2: Years 2 , 3 and 4 (age 6-8) The Year 4 group is taught separately in the mornings.
  • Class 3: Years 5 and 6 (age 8-11)

The Teaching Staff

Head Teacher

  • Mrs. Jane Hewitt

Teachers

  • Mrs. Susan Warnock
  • Mrs. Carol Watts
  • Mrs. Jane Griffiths
  • Mrs. Claire Tarplee
  • Mr. Graham Wright
Because of the small numbers at the school, the pupils are able to enjoy more personal attention from the teachers and school staff. This is valuable for all the pupils, but especially for those with special needs. The time can be afforded to concentrate on areas of weakness to help the children attain higher levels of achievement.

Children with social difficulties find the close family atmosphere and personal attention supportive in overcoming their difficulties. The school currently has children registered with special needs.

All the children work hard and make good academic progress, as this year's SATs results show and we are immensely proud of their achievements. The school has recently been placed in the top band for academic and management performance which is particularly pleasing.

Links with the Church

As a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, we have close links with the local church. The local rector, the Reverend David Russell is a Foundation Governor and visits the school regularly to take collective worship. Mrs Alison Shaw, the Bishop of Gloucester's visitor makes termly pastoral visits to the school.

Curriculum Enrichment

The school is a member of a cluster of local small schools, including Cromhall, Iron Acton, North Road and Tortworth. The schools join together to provide sporting activities for the children throughout the year and residential visits in Years 5 and 6.

The children throughout the school participate in a wide range of visits to pursue the curriculum in different ways. The school also hosts visitors, including story-tellers and county level sportsmen and women.

From Year 3, there is the opportunity to take up a brass instrument. Guitar and recorder clubs are also offered at lunchtime and after school.

Healthy SchoolsDuring 2000-2001 our school will be part of the National Healthy School Initiative. Part of our action plan is to improve the outside environment of our school with the addition of picnic tables, more games and playground markings. The project is due for completion in May 2001 and, if successful, we will be entitled to use the Healthy Schools logo on our stationery.

Fund Raising for Charity

The school regularly supports outside charities and in the last year charities have included Comic Relief, NCH Action for children, Jeans for Genes and Skip Rope for Heart. This year an impressive amount was raised in support of the Tsunami relief.
