Rangeworthy school is a small village school, in a rural setting, with a caring, family atmosphere. This, combined with the small number of pupils, creates an ideal environment to develop not only the full academic potential of each child, but also provides for the time and energy to equip children with the social skills necessary for a successful and happy future.
The school currently has 50 pupils, with a capacity for 10 children per year. There are 3 classes, currently taught as Younger Infants (Reception and Year 1), Older Infants with Lower Juniors (Years 2, 3 and 4) and Higher Juniors (Years 5 and 6). A flexible approach in teaching methods enables each year to be educated separately when necessary, whilst classes can be joined together for other sessions. All the children work hard and make good academic progress, in 2007 100% of the children that actually took the Key Stage 2 SATS achieved level 4 or above.
The school is a Church of England school and as such has close links with the local church and ministry. The church is adjacent to the school and the children make good use of its facilities and regularly attend school services and assemblies.
One of the main benefits of being such a small school is the smaller class sizes and the associated increased pupil to teacher ratio. This is excellent in enabling the full potential of each child to be realised, which is especially important for those with special needs. In order to gain the benefits of being part of a larger school, we are in a cluster group with similar sized local schools. We offer the full range of curricular activities including the teaching of Spanish throughout the school. We take part in sports events, theatre visits, parents information evenings and strategy meetings with the cluster group. At the moment we run an after school club on Mondays for Computers and lunchtime clubs in Art, Board games and computers.
